Clicktag for Webflow

Webflow analytics without paying for the Analyze add-on

Clicktag is a free web analytics tool for Webflow sites, with no credit card and no cookies. Paste one 4 KB script into your site's Head code to track visitors, sources, up to 50 goals and funnels on up to 50 sites, then add 16 months of Search Console data.

You don't need to pay for the Webflow Analyze add-on or wrestle with Google Analytics 4 to see who visits your Webflow site. If your site is on a paid Webflow Site plan or inside a Core, Growth, Agency or Freelancer Workspace, you can paste any script tag into your custom Head code. Clicktag is a free analytics tool that runs from a single 4 KB script, sets no cookies, and tracks visitors, referrers, UTM campaigns, goals and funnels without per-session billing.

How much does Webflow Analyze cost?

Webflow's native analytics product, Webflow Analyze, is an optional paid add-on. On Webflow's pricing page, Analyze starts at $9 per month based on the number of sessions, with tiers from 2,000 to 500,000 sessions per month.

Webflow Analyze tracks without cookies, filters bots automatically, and captures page views, sessions, visitors and click data inside Webflow. The catch is that the price is based on sessions, so a site that grows, or a blog post that takes off, can push you into a higher tier.

If you already pay Webflow for a Site plan or Workspace that includes custom code, you can put a free analytics script in your site's <head> and skip the per-session add-on.

How to add Clicktag to a Webflow site

Webflow requires an active Site plan, or a Core, Growth, Agency or Freelancer Workspace, to use custom code in head and body tags. Webflow allows up to 50,000 characters in site-wide Head code, so Clicktag's single tag fits easily.

1. Copy your script tag from Clicktag

Sign in at clicktag.app with your Google account and add your domain. Open Site settings > Installation, step 1, and copy your snippet. Keep both data-hostname and data-verify intact so Clicktag can verify ownership automatically from your published homepage HTML:

<script
  async
  src="https://clicktag.io/latest.js"
  data-hostname="example.com"
  data-verify="YOUR_SITE_VERIFY_TOKEN"
></script>

2. Paste it into Webflow Head code

In Webflow, go to Site settings > Custom code tab > Head code, which applies to your entire site. Paste the script tag and click Save changes. If you only want analytics on a single landing page, paste it in the Inside <head> tag box in that page's Page settings instead; automatic verification only reads your homepage, so verify with a DNS TXT record in that case.

3. Publish your Webflow site

Custom code shows in preview mode but doesn't go live until you publish. Publish your site to your production domain, then click Run setup check in Clicktag's Site settings > Installation, step 3, to confirm the tag is in the served HTML (the installation docs cover the details). Open the site once: the first visit verifies it, and hits show up in the Live view within about a second.

Clicktag vs Webflow Analyze

What you get for free in Clicktag

Instead of metering sessions, Clicktag includes every feature in one free account for up to 50 websites (which makes it straightforward if you run web analytics for agencies with multiple Webflow client builds). You can click around the live demo dashboard to see the interface with synthetic sample data before signing up.

  • Visitors, pages and sources: See distinct daily visitors, pageviews, entry pages, median time on page (for views of 5 seconds or more), average scroll depth, countries from browser time zone, devices, browsers and operating systems.
  • UTM campaign reports: Filter by utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign (up to 12 filters at once). Clicktag reads utm_source first, then source or ref, then the referring host.
  • Goals and funnels: Set up to 50 goals per site on pageviews or custom events. Build funnel analytics with 2 to 6 steps completed on the same UTC day, including median and p90 time to convert. Because goals are computed from data you already collect, adding a new goal today immediately scores your past traffic.
  • Cache-based retention: Check weekly cohorts of first visits (up to 12 follow-up weeks) and returning browsers using the browser's HTTP cache rather than cookies.
  • AI traffic and crawlers: Visitors clicking links from ChatGPT (which appends utm_source=chatgpt.com), Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot appear as distinct sources in AI traffic analytics. If you proxy your Webflow domain through Cloudflare (any plan, including Free), you can also connect a read-only Cloudflare token to track GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot in the Crawlers tab.
  • Search Console and email reports: Connect Google Search Console to backfill 16 months of queries, clicks, impressions, CTR and position right next to your traffic, and schedule email reports for up to 25 recipients per site.

Tracking Webflow buttons and forms with custom events

Clicktag's latest.js script does not record clicks, outbound links, file downloads or form submissions on its own.

When you want to track a Webflow form submission, a pricing toggle or an outbound button click, call window.tt_event(name, metadata, callback) from a small script in your site's Footer code or a page's Before </body> tag box. Put the value you want to compare in reports directly into the event name (up to 256 characters), because event metadata is stored but cannot be grouped or filtered in reports. Once the event fires, turn it into a goal in goal tracking to see its conversion rate broken down by referrer, entry page and country.

Clicktag, Webflow Analyze or Google Analytics: which to pick

Pick Clicktag if you want goals, funnels, AI referral sources and crawler data for your Webflow sites for free, without per-session pricing (Analyze starts at $9 a month). Clients can see a site's stats too: share it view-only with up to 25 people who sign in with Google, make its dashboard public, or send them email reports.

Webflow Analyze fits if you want click maps and scroll maps captured without writing JavaScript (Clicktag counts clicks and forms with a window.tt_event call). Google Analytics fits if you need bounce rate or ecommerce revenue reports.

FAQ

Can I add Clicktag to a free Webflow Starter site?

Only if the site sits in a Core, Growth, Agency or Freelancer Workspace. Otherwise Webflow allows custom code in the <head> and <body> tags only on sites with an active paid Site plan.

Does Clicktag slow down Webflow pages?

The latest.js script is about 4 KB compressed and loads with the async attribute, so it does not block your Webflow page from rendering. Pageviews and events are sent as small image requests, and the engagement update uses navigator.sendBeacon when a visitor leaves the page.

Does Webflow include jQuery if I want to wire up custom click events?

Yes, Webflow sites published since August 2020 include jQuery v3.5.1, and you can use either plain JavaScript or jQuery in your site's Footer code (up to 50,000 characters) to call window.tt_event() on button clicks or form submits.

Can Clicktag import my old Google Analytics or Webflow Analyze data?

Clicktag supports importing historical data from Simple Analytics, and it backfills up to 16 months of search queries when you connect Google Search Console, but it does not support Google Analytics imports or CSV uploads.

What limits does Clicktag have?

Clicktag is free with no credit card required: you get up to 50 websites per account, up to 50 goals per site (funnels included), up to 12 simultaneous report filters, up to 25 email report recipients per site, and up to 10 active Stats API management keys with date queries up to 400 days.
