Clicktag for Wix
Wix analytics: add free, cookieless tracking to your Wix site
Clicktag adds free, cookieless web analytics to your Wix site with no credit card required. Paste one 4 KB script into Wix Custom Code to track up to 50 goals, 2 to 6 step funnels and AI referrals, then add 16 months of Search Console queries.
Wix includes built-in Wix Analytics reports in your site dashboard. If you want a fast, external dashboard that sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses, you can add Clicktag alongside your existing reports. You paste one 4 KB script in your Wix dashboard under Settings > Custom Code. Before you start, Wix requires that your site is published and has a connected domain.
How to add tracking code to Wix
Wix lets you embed third-party scripts across your entire site from its dashboard, provided the site is published and connected to a custom domain (see Wix's custom code guide).
1. Copy your Clicktag snippet
Sign in to Clicktag with a Google account, add your domain, and go to Site settings > Installation. Copy the script tag from step 1. It looks like this:
<script
async
src="https://clicktag.io/latest.js"
data-hostname="example.com"
data-verify="YOUR_SITE_VERIFY_TOKEN"
></script>
Keep both data-hostname and data-verify on the tag. The tag you copy already contains the hostname you registered and your site's verification token.
2. Paste the snippet in Wix Custom Code
Open your Wix site dashboard and follow the path from Wix's official documentation:
- Go to Settings in your Wix site dashboard.
- Click Custom Code in the Development & integrations section.
- Click + Add Custom Code at the top right.
- Paste the Clicktag
<script>snippet into the text box and give it a name, such as Clicktag. - Under Add Code to Pages, select All pages. Under Place Code in, select Head.
- Click Apply.
3. Verify your site and test in Live view
Clicktag stores data only for verified sites. When the first hit arrives, it fetches your homepage HTML from the server and looks for the data-verify token. If Wix adds your custom code only with client-side JavaScript and the automatic check does not see it, use the DNS TXT record under Verify another way in your Clicktag site settings.
Open your Wix site in a browser tab (make sure Do Not Track is off) and check the Live view in Clicktag. Hits appear within about a second, and the feed opens with the last 5 minutes of activity.
Watch out when changing domains on Wix
Wix ties custom code snippets to a specific domain. According to Wix's help documentation, if you assign a different domain to your Wix site, your custom code snippets are deleted.
If you ever change or reassign the domain connected to your Wix site, check Settings > Custom Code right away and re-add your Clicktag snippet so you do not lose traffic data.
After re-adding the snippet, open your live page and check Clicktag's Live view to confirm hits are arriving again.
What Clicktag adds to your Wix site traffic reports
Running Clicktag alongside Wix's built-in reports gives you a focused view of how people find your site and what they do next, without cookies or local storage. You can test the interface anytime on the live demo dashboard (its numbers are synthetic).
- Traffic sources and UTMs: Clicktag reads
utm_sourcefirst, then thesourceorrefquery parameter, then the referring host. You get breakdowns for UTM source, UTM medium and UTM campaign, and you can apply up to 12 filters at once. - AI traffic analytics: Visitors from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot show up as their own sources. ChatGPT adds
utm_source=chatgpt.comto links it displays, so Clicktag groups those visits underchatgpt.com. Google search domains are grouped undergoogle.com(including Google AI Overviews), whilegemini.google.comstays separate. - Goal tracking and funnel analytics: Set up to 50 goals per site, funnels included. A goal can be a pageview (like a
/thank-youpage) or a custom event. Because goals are computed from data you already collect, adding a new goal immediately includes past data. Funnels track 2 to 6 steps completed in order on the same UTC day and report median and p90 time to convert. - Search Console analytics: Connect Google Search Console to see queries, clicks, impressions, CTR and position next to your site stats. Clicktag backfills up to 16 months of history, refreshes the trailing 10 days every 6 hours, and lets you overlay Search Console clicks directly on your measured Google visits.
- Page changes without a reload:
latest.jshookshistory.pushStateand listens forpopstate, so pages that change without a full reload are still recorded as pageviews, and a second copy of the tag on the same page stops itself.
Tracking button clicks and forms on Wix
By default, latest.js records pageviews, referrers, time on page (reported as the median of views lasting 5 seconds or more) and browser details. It does not record button clicks, outbound links, file downloads or form submissions on its own.
To track specific actions on your Wix site, call window.tt_event(name, metadata, callback) from your custom code when a visitor clicks an element or submits a form. Event names are cut at 256 characters and metadata at 4,096 characters. Because event metadata cannot be grouped or filtered in reports, put the value you want to compare directly into the event name, such as signup_header vs signup_footer. See the custom events documentation for the preload queue snippet and examples.

Clicktag covers traffic sources, content, goals, funnels and API performance for free, without cookies. For order totals, cart abandonment and product revenue on a Wix store, keep Wix's native store reports next to it.
FAQ
Why can't I add custom code to my Wix site?
Wix requires your site to be published and to have a connected domain before you add custom code. If your site is unpublished or has no connected domain, publish it and connect a domain first.
Why did my Clicktag tracking stop after I changed my Wix domain?
Wix links custom code snippets to a specific domain and deletes those snippets if you assign a different domain to the site. After changing domains, go back to Settings > Custom Code in Wix, paste your Clicktag snippet again, and register the new domain in Clicktag.
What if Clicktag tag verification fails on my Wix site?
Clicktag's automatic tag verification checks the raw homepage HTML returned by the server for your data-verify attribute. If Wix injects the script on the client side and verification fails, add the DNS TXT record from Verify another way in Site settings > Installation, then click Check verification.
Does Clicktag track Wix ecommerce revenue or bounce rate?
No. Clicktag does not track ecommerce revenue, bounce rate, session recordings or heatmaps. It measures visitors, pageviews, median time on page (for views of 5 seconds or more), average scroll depth, referrers, UTM source, UTM medium, UTM campaign, custom events, up to 50 goals, funnels and weekly retention cohorts.
Can I track AI crawlers like GPTBot on a Wix site?
Clicktag's Crawlers tab reads bot requests (such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot) from Cloudflare using a read-only Cloudflare API token, which requires your domain to be proxied through Cloudflare (any Cloudflare plan, including Free) and verified in Clicktag. If your Wix domain does not route through Cloudflare, Clicktag cannot show AI crawler hits, though it will still track human visits referred by ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot.
